Hello!
My name is Claudia Kyalangalilwa and I'm a Resident Assistant, RA, at Rienow Residence Hall.
I am contacting you because me, along with two others RAs are planning on having a Culture/Diversity activity here throughout Rienow and are asking for your help.
We will be having an event where different floor lounges will represent different countries and we were hoping that, as the Asian Pacific American Cultural Center, we could provide you with a lounge and you could host the countries of China and Japan-or maybe two other countries that may be more appealing to you than these two.
Taking a lounge would entail:
-you coming up with a couple activities for residents to participate in
-room decoration [that we are willing to help with]
-some type of cultural educational experience [it could be like explaining things about that certain culture]
-providing us with an idea for food/snacks [if any] that we would do our best to provide
You would basically be hosting a room for us. We would help you in every way that we possibly could to make this experience the best a resident can ever ask for. Like I said, food/snack ideas that may pertain to the country/ies you choose are encouraged and we can help with supplying them if you let us know.
We are really hoping that you can help us out on this!
Please reply to me with an answer by Wednesday Nov. 10th-next Wednesday. If you do decide to help us with this, I will be your primary contact.
Thank you and PLEASE let me know if you have any questions!

Subject: This Friday: Cinematheque 11/12
Friday, November 12, 3:30PM in 101 BCSB
Continuing the Cinematheque series and in order to start taking advantage of our rare, non-Region I etc DVD and 16mm collection (notably among others of Japanese films), this week we'll have a screening of "United Red Army" (2007) (実録・連合赤軍 あさま山荘への道程) by former soft-core auteur and enfant-terrible of Japanese cinema, Wakamatsu Koji. This film was in multiple 'not coming soon to a theater near you' lists of bests for 2008 and it has not been released commercially anywhere outside Japan and France. We will screen the Japanese DVD with added English subtitles that we have procured. The film is extremely interesting from a sociohistorical and stylistic perspective and has not screened (outside of festivals) in an English-language context before. The music is by Chicago's own and Tokyo resident, Jim O'Rourke (of Sonic Youth fame). Bring yourself and bring a friend! Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures faculty and students also welcome.
And please pass this along to anyone who might have interest!
