Rakugo

RAKUGO, Topper Story in literal meaning, is the Japanese traditional comedy mono-drama. Performers sit on a small mattress in front of the audience and act out stories with a comic style and structure. In RAKUGO, the performer can be a narrator, but usually performs the actual characters in the story. These characters converse without a narrator coming between them. The challenge for the performer is switching from one distinct character to another. Each character represents exaggerated aspects of the human personality, which we can all readily related to. The predicaments, which they find themselves in, are part of everyday life.

Kaishi Katsura, Japanese rakugo master, has performed 320 times in 83 different cities in 13 different countries. In 2008 he completed his first cross US tour in many US cities including NY Broadway and Chicago.

Please visit his website http://eigo-rakugo.com/. You can see Rakugo in English You-tube video.

Daikagura

The original purpose of Daikagura was to serve as a talisman for the people, chasing away evil on behalf of the gods of the shrines. Thus, Daikagura was originally a very sacred and serious performance. Today, the performance is becoming people's entertainment. They wear a "kimono" and perform Japanese traditional juggling and the lion dance. If you get bitten by the lion, it's good luck! Various objects are spun around on the top of an umbrella. A teacup is balanced on top of a long pole. Don't blink!

Kokyo Taiko Drummers

Wadaiko, Japanese style drumming, has been described as dynamic, thunderous, and powerful; the sound can be felt in your soul. Kokyo Taiko, based in Lincoln, brings this exciting art of choreographed drumming to communities throughout Nebraska and surrounding states.

Kojokan

The crashing thunder of drums. The ringing of steel on steel, punctuated by loud war cries. The swirling vision of armored figures locked in mortal combat.

This was the samurai-warriors without peer, noblemen whose very existence was defined by honor and discipline. Their skill at arms was legendary. Their devotions to training and self-improvement was unparalleled in history.

The Kojokan Shinbutai now brings these fabled warriors from the distant past, and an even more distant land to life. This performance team, led by Sensei Daniel Coglan, provides a unique look into a culture and lifestyle that while extinct, still leaves an impression on society today.

Real katana, or swords, are used for the highlight of the show-tameshigiri, the art of test cutting. In fact, the blade that Sensei uses is a 700 year-old katana, valued at over $10,000!

Please inform about this event to many people.

Thank you.
