１、広島被爆者講演のお知らせとボランティア募集のお願い

広島被爆者講演会: Memories of a Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Survivor II 　
2月9日火曜日

Iowa City Public Library Meeting Room A


広島とアイオワをインターネットで結んで、被爆者の方に体験を語っていただきます。講演をしてくださるのは、被爆当時19歳だった新宅勝文さんです。昭和 15年、東洋工業株式会社（現マツダ株式会社）に入社。原爆が投下されたのは、夜勤後の早朝に爆心地から1.5km離れた自宅に帰宅して眠ろうとした時でした。

広島平和文化センターのスティーブン・リーパー理事長も講演に参加し、核兵器廃絶について話をします。

このイベントは、広島平和資料記念館とアイオワ大学図書館の共催です。

当日、Iowa City Public Libraryの会場設定と後片付けを手伝ってくださるボランティアを募集しています。椅子を並べたり、配布物を渡したりするのを手伝っていただければと思います。会場設定は6時から、後片付けは9時から30分ぐらいの見込みです。ボランティアをしてくださる方は、studorg- jssc@uiowa.edu までご連絡下さい:

-----Memories of a Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Survivor II -----

Mark your calendar and please join me when Mr. Katsufumi Shintaku, Hiroshima Atomic bomb survivor, will speak to us from Hiroshima at a web conference presentation.

On August 6, 1945, Mr. Shintaku just returned from his night shift at Toyo Kogyo (currently Mazda Motor Corporation) when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. His house was 1.5 km from the epicenter. Mr. Steven Leeper, Chairman of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, will also talk about the proliferation of nuclear weapons and the call for disarmament. He is a well-known peace activist and the first American to head the foundation.

ICJA（アイオワ市日本人協会）主催　新春親睦会のお知らせ

ICJA New Year's Potluck Party!!


寒い毎日が続いておりますが、皆様お健やかにお過ごしのことと思います。

Iowa City Japanese Association（アイオワ市日本人協会）では、このたび親睦会を開催することとなりました。お餅つきや書道、竹とんぼ作りや合気道のデモンストレーションなど、日本の懐かしい文化に触れながら、楽しいひと時を過ごしたいと思っております。この会は日本人の方だけでなく、日本に興味のある方ならどなたでも大歓迎です。どうぞ御家族そろって、またはお友達を誘い合わせて御参加下さい。

※　アイオワ市日本人協会（ICJA）は、国籍を問わず日本に興味のある方ならだれでも参加できる新しい会で、このパーティは会の発足も兼ねています。活動の一つとしてアイオワシティ授業補習校（文部科学省認可）をサポートしています。


The Iowa City Japanese Association will be hosting a Japanese New Year's potluck party featuring demonstrations of Mochitsuki (preparation of Japanese rice cakes) and Aikido (a Japanese martial art), and opportunities to try shodo (Japanese calligraphy) and traditional bamboo toy making. We are hoping to provide an opportunity for people to have fun while engaging in traditional Japanese cultural activities.

This event is free and open to anyone interested in learning about Japanese culture. Bring your family and friends!

Location

It will be held on February 20, 2010 (Saturday) 1pm-3pm at the Coralville Public Library on the basement floor (1201 Fifth St, Coralville, IA, 52241).

Food

Although it’s not a prerequisite for attendance, please bring a dish to share for the potluck party.　Drinks and Japanese ‘Shiruko’ (sweet red bean soup) will be provided.

ICJA is a new Iowa City-based association dedicated to fostering interest in Japanese culture. One of its main functions is supporting the Iowa City Japanese School (Recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education). Membership to ICJA is open to anyone.
